Virtual Trip: The National Road & Zane Grey Museum

Pack your bags and get ready for a new adventure. Join us as we explore new places, cultures, and experiences from the comfort of your own home.

This week we will be visiting The National Road & Zane Grey Museum.

The National Road & Zane Grey Museum, managed by the Ohio History Connection and located in Norwich, Ohio, is a unique facility that combines history and culture. It showcases three major themes:

  1. The National Road: Known as “the Main Street of America”, the National Road was America’s first federally funded highway. The museum features exhibits that speak to the history of the road, its construction, and transportation evolution from wagons to cars. A highlight is a 136-foot long, 3/8ths-scale diorama illustrating what it was like to travel on the National Road from the early 19th century to the mid-20th century.
  2. Zane Grey: The museum honors Zane Grey, the “Father of the American Western”, who was a locally-born author of adventure novels and Westerns. The exhibits provide insight into his life and work.
  3. Art Pottery: The museum also displays a collection of Zanesville Art Pottery, showcasing the region’s rich history in ceramic artistry.

The museum is open from May through October, Wednesday to Saturday (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and Sundays (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.). It also offers guided tours and welcomes group visits by appointment.
