Financial Literacy: Money Talks – Business Statements (Profit& Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)

Ever wondered how to tell if a business is doing well or not? Grab your magnifying glasses and together we’ll uncover the secrets hidden in business statements – the real storytellers of the business world!

1. Profit & Loss Statement: The Business Report Card
First up, the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement. Think of it as a business’s report card that shows if it’s earning an A+ (profit) or needs improvement (loss). We’ll dive into how to read one, understanding sales, costs, and what’s left over (the profit…or loss!).

2. Balance Sheet: The Business Snapshot
Next, the Balance Sheet – it’s like a snapshot of the business at a specific moment. Discover how this statement shows what a business owns (assets), owes (liabilities), and the value left for the owners (equity). It’s like a financial selfie!

3. Cash Flow Statement: The Business’s Cash Diary
Then, the Cash Flow Statement – the diary of a business’s cash! Learn how this statement tracks the cash coming in and going out. It tells us if a business has enough cash to keep running smoothly or if it’s running short.

4. Putting It All Together: The Business Story
Every business has a story, and these statements together tell it. We’ll learn how to put the pieces together – how profit affects cash flow, what a balance sheet says about a business’s health, and why these statements are super important for making smart business decisions.

5. Fun with Numbers: Interactive Scenarios
Numbers can be fun! We’ll dive into interactive scenarios where you’ll use your new skills to analyze simple business statements. You’ll play the role of a business analyst, making predictions and decisions based on real data.

6. The Big Picture: Why These Statements Matter to You
Why should you care about these statements? We’ll connect the dots to show how understanding these can help you in future jobs, managing your own money, or even running your own business one day.

Join us for this engaging session where you’ll turn into a business statement detective, uncovering the stories behind the numbers. You’ll walk away with a new understanding of how businesses keep track of their money and how you can apply this knowledge in real life.

The event is only possible because of the generous support of the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council.
