Animal Safari: Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

If you love animals, then this is the program for you! Join us for an animal safari where we will be taking a virtual trip to check out and learn about new animals each week. This week we will be visiting the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is a renowned wildlife sanctuary located about an hour’s drive south of Anchorage. Dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care, AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Most animals that arrive at AWCC become permanent residents. The center is situated in a scenic natural setting, encompassing over 200 acres of habitat where visitors can observe animals like brown bears, moose, caribou, porcupines, muskox, and more.

Visitors can explore the center via a scenic 1.5-mile loop, which is accessible by foot, bike, car, and in winter, by kick-sled. AWCC is open year-round, with varying hours depending on the season, and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
