The Pros and Cons on enlisting after high school
As the cost of college continues to rise many students are considering enrolling in the military after High School. U.S. Armed Forces are made up of the five armed service branches: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. Let’s look at the Pros and Cons on enlisting after high school:
Pros:
- Serve your county and help ensure our freedom
- Way to see the world
- Learn valuable skills while getting paid
- Option to attend college in the future with financial assistance from the government
- Free healthcare and dental care for life and free room, board and uniforms while enlisted
- Serve for 20 years and guaranteed pension of at least 50 percent of their base pay for life.
Cons:
- Small risk of injury or death, for example: less than 1% of those on active duty between 1980 and 2010 have died while in service, and most of the deaths were accidental.
- It’s a commitment. all enlistees, regardless of service branch, commit to a minimum of eight years of service including active-duty and inactive reserves.
