Zoom Guide: Enabling/Disabling Participant Video as a Host or Co-host

Enabling/Disabling Participant Video as a Host or Co-host

1. During a Meeting:

  • As a host or co-host, you have control over participant video.
  • Once you’re in a Zoom meeting, you can manage participant videos using the controls available.

2. Using the Participant Panel:

  • Locate the “Participants” button at the bottom of the Zoom window and click on it. This will open the Participants panel on the right-hand side.
  • In the Participants panel, you’ll see a list of all meeting participants.
  • To the right of each participant’s name, there are several icons. The video icon (usually a camera icon) controls participant video.
  • Click on the video icon next to a participant’s name to toggle their video on or off.

3. Managing All Participant Videos:

  • If you want to manage videos for all participants simultaneously:
    • Click on the “More” button (three dots) at the bottom of the Participants panel.
    • Select “Manage Participants.”
    • This will open a window with a list of all participants and their video status.
    • From here, you can click on the “More” button next to each participant’s name to choose to “Stop Video” or “Ask to Start Video.”

4. Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • You can use keyboard shortcuts to manage participant videos quickly:
    • To mute/unmute all participants: Alt + M (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + M (Mac).
    • To start/stop participant video: Alt + V (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + V (Mac).

Additional Tips:

  • Participants’ Control: By default, participants have the ability to start or stop their own video. However, as a host or co-host, you can override this control.
  • Participant Permissions: As a host, you can restrict participants’ ability to start or stop their video. This can be done through meeting settings.
  • Mobile Devices: If you’re hosting a meeting from a mobile device, the process might vary slightly, but the basic controls for managing participant video remain the same.
